Born in Melbourne, Australia. Studied at two of the nation's most prestigious art academies: The Caulfield Institute of Technology and the National Gallery Art School.  After completing her education Sandra taught printmaking at Brighton Technical College and lectured in Fine Art at the Prahran College of Advanced Education.

Sandra Leveson is one of Australia’s most distinctive contemporary women artists. The creator of luminescent paintings has pursued her career for more than thirty years and has exhibited in numerous galleries both internationally and in Australia.

In the 1960s she was influenced by Geometric Op and in the 1970s by American Abstract Expressionism. Latterly her work has developed into an individual style that pays heed to both the European and Australian landscapes and marks her as a consummate colourist. Her work is informed by the soft European light and by Australia’s vibrant atmosphere. Leveson utilises the specific iconography of the Flanders poppy and the endless Antipodean horizon line but her work remains intriguingly non-specific in its geographical orientation.

The quality of Sandra Leveson’s art transcends easily assignable categories and yet maintains a potent visual presence. This artist’s technical skill and painterly intuition has merited a significant place in the history of Australian modernism.
